I'm Emma Humphris,
I’m passionate about transforming conflict and fostering healthy deliberation through research, facilitation, and mediation.

I help people bridge divides and engage in meaningful dialogue across differences.
I work with mission-driven organizations, businesses, communities, and individuals, with specialized expertise in civil and community disputes (including family, housing, relationships, and workplace issues) as well as government and civil society conflicts.

With years of dedication to healing and repair within the criminal justice system, I bring a strong background in restorative justice to my work.
I hold a Ph.D. from Stanford University, an MSc from Oxford University, and I am a certified mediator offering services in English, French, and Spanish.

MY APPROACH
Systemic
Conflicts never exist in isolation; they are part of a larger, interconnected system. My approach involves both zooming in on the immediate issues and zooming out to examine the broader context. This dual lens provides critical insights, allowing for more effective and lasting resolutions that address not just the symptoms but the root causes.
Restorative
While pragmatic solutions are important, I believe that true resolution comes from repair. By centering the healing process, I help individuals and communities move forward with dignity. My goal is to ensure that conflicts are resolved in a way that not only achieves immediate outcomes but also fosters healing and long-term sustainability.
Creative
Conflict is a powerful catalyst for growth and renewal. Rather than simply helping parties “settle,” I see conflict as an opportunity for individuals and organizations to redefine their identities, relationships, and paths forward. Through creative problem-solving, I guide my clients in turning conflict into a springboard for positive change and transformation
TESTIMONIALS
Emma’s more humane approach to mediation, based on addressing needs and awareness that conflicts are always part of a larger context, is the next step forward in bridging across personal and societal divides. I have seen it work at the personal level, and it has helped me to reframe ongoing international conflicts.

When tensions arose between us and our tenant, we were unsure how to navigate the situation. Emma stepped in and brought a level of professionalism and understanding that truly made a difference. Thanks to Emma’s guidance, we reached an agreement that satisfied everyone involved. We’re now able to maintain a positive relationship with our tenant, which is invaluable.
